Introduction

Dr. Ohira probiotics is a well-known probiotic supplement in North America. There are many similarities between Dr. Ohira and R’s KOSO. They both continue traditional fermentation techniques and undergo fermentation for at least one year. Furthermore, they use organic/locally sourced whole fruits, vegetables, plants, mushrooms, seaweed as their fermentation base. They are sources of prebiotics, probiotics, and postbiotics.

Prebiotics are fiber that probiotic microorganisms ferment in order to thrive and survive, producing beneficial by-products. Probiotics are beneficial microorganisms (bacteria, yeast, and fungi) that survive on every surface of our body, in our gut, on our skin. They form communities and compete against pathogenic, harmful microorganisms. Postbiotics are functional, bioactive compounds that are produced by the probiotics, such as vitamin K and short-chain fatty acids such as butyrate in the process.
